Each pair of shoes has been uniquely designed by a Los Angeles Area student - there are no duplicates or additional sizes available. The students' goal is to have their kicks viewed as pieces of art in addition to footwear. Fifty percent of proceeds will go towards a charity representing each student's cause and the remainder will benefit Jefferson High School and Variety Boys & Girls Club.

Out of respect for the student artists, we do not list prices on the Website. These shoe prices will range from $100 - $400 depending on market value and style. Canvas shoes range from $100 - $250 and the leather shoes range from $300 - $400. Follow the REQUEST PRICE! links to request pricing through email.

Enjoy taking a look at what these talented students have done! If you have any questions about our shoes, please contact us.

JEFFERSON HIGH SCHOOL
Emileme, 15, Graffiti -- "Expression" (Size 13M)
I meant to do a shoe portraying how the media and other people are generally against graffiti and how they don't really treat it as an art form. Sure, there may be people who practice it that are a bad influence toward kids - crews and gangs and stuff - but it's portrayed as if everybody who does it is related in some way to a gang. On the left shoe, the question mark and the peace sign show my feelings toward graffiti. If the opportunity was given to me, I'd be more than happy to help any politician out who wants to change how things are represented.

Fun facts:
In my free time... I like listening to music and drawing.
Music... My favorite music currently is electro, but I like a lot of different music.
Sports... My favorite team is the Dodgers - they better do well this year!
For whoever buys my shoes... I hope that they wear it. Then it will leave whoever sees the shoe with the question, "Is it really vandalism, or should it be considered art?"

Bree'AnA, 17, Global Warming -- "Hazard" (Size 10.5M)
My shoe is flipping awesome. Global warming is the inspiration. Nobody is really trying to do anything about it; and if there are people trying to make a difference, it's not a lot of them. In the front of my shoes is a world, the side represents the warming effect and the sun is on the back. Honestly, people need to wake up and notice how hot it's getting every year. To get things to change it'll probably take something big. But before then, everybody needs to just take a risk and shut everything off so they're forced to use things like bikes and fans. If you don't pay attention, things might be turned off for good.

Fun facts:
In my free time...I like to draw anything that comes to mind, and when I'm not drawing I like to talk on the phone.
Music...I enjoy all types of music - it'd be tough to choose a favorite
Sports...A favorite sports team - I hate sports!
Food...My favorite food is Chilerellenos
For whoever buys my shoes...I'd like them to wear 'em out and show my stuff off rather than display them as a work of art.

Juan Martinez (left), 15, Animal Preservation - "Wild Vines" (Size 10M)
Although my shoes only have one central theme and design, I believe they speak a powerful message through one main concern: animals and their environment. I've drawn a panda in his indigenous environment, surrounded by vines. The reason I chose vines as my plant is that they are the simplest of plants, needing barely anything to survive and not inhibiting any other species from thriving and prospering. The panda represents all the endangered species on the earth, animals that have been exploited by humans for their fur or their bodily reactions to scientific experiment. I am very against wearing fur, leather, or anything that harms animals for human pleasure. My parents have turned a blind eye to the concerns for animal rights, so therefore I feel like it is my responsibility to care for them twice over. My grandfather, however, a man who lives in Mexico and whom I've never gotten to know, loves animals, and I believe he would be very proud of the message I'm trying to convey through these shoes. I would love to sell my shoe to a celebrity, or anyone heavily involved in the media; a celebrity's wearing my shoes would give them a lot of press and exposure to fans and onlookers alike.

Fun facts:
Music... I love music, especially rock. My favorite bands include One Republic, Red Hot Chili Peppers, and many other bands within the genres of classic, soft and alternative rock.
In my free time... I also enjoy designing and animating cartoons digitally. I've created a main character named Emox, and my comic strip basically chronicles his everyday life. Emox doesn't talk, but I like to add background music to convey and parallel Emox's feelings.

Marlon, 16, Alternatives to Gang Violence -- "Nintendo Getaway" (Size 10.5M)
My shoe is based on Nintendo and on the game Super Smash Bros - it's my favorite game. The majority of the time I win, but not always - it's a competition out there. I chose to make my shoe Nintendo based because you can take your mind off gangs for awhile and violence, drugs and bad things by playing some Smash Bros. - it keeps you occupied. To keep my mind in the right places I also draw a lot. I draw people more than other things. It's harder to draw people - it's a little challenge.

Fun facts:
In my free time... I like to play football. My position is linebacker.
Music... My favorite is Lil' Wayne.
Sports... My team is the Atlanta Falcons. USC is pretty good, too.
Food... My favorite food is carne asada burritos they serve at a local food cart. They have some bomb carne asada burritos
For whoever buys my shoes... I want them to wear ‘em - more people will see them that way.

Maria, 16, Border Crossing -- "My Belief" (Size 11.5M)
My shoe is for the people who have tried to cross over the border, but instead they die. They are only trying to get a new life. I don't think it should be as much of a challenge as it is today to come to America. On my shoes, I put some crosses for the people who have died and the mountains they often need to cross. In the middle of the flag I wrote, "I need my liberty" in Spanish. If I could, I'd change the immigration laws.

Fun facts:
In my free time... I like to draw - cartoons especially. There isn't one I'm the best at; I'm pretty good at drawing all of them.
Music... I like all types. I've been hearing a lot of techno lately.
Sports... I'm not really into sports, but my favorite sport is baseball and I'm a Dodgers fan.
For whoever buys my shoes...Whether they wear them or display them, it'd be good either way.

Tony, 15, Ruben, 15, Emotional Expression & Gang Violence -- "Emotions "(Tony's shoe) / "Game of Life and Death" (Ruben's shoe) (Size 13M)
Tony: On my shoe are faces and characters that represent how people feel. The message is that people's expressions, their faces, reflect their life and their goals, but even though they might be feeling it at the time, they might not talk about it. Art is an outlet for expressing those emotions.

Ruben: My shoe represents the consequences of you playing a game in a gang. You got to face the consequences, the things that come along with playing that game. To avoid gangs, I rely on things like my family.

Fun facts:
Tony:
In my free time... I enjoy drawing.
Music... My favorite artist is Rime from the group MSK
Sports... I'm a Dodgers fan - I'm guessing they'll do well this year.
For whoever buys my shoes... Either displaying them or wearing them would be cool.

Ruben:
In my free time... I like to draw and work on my car, which I paint myself.
Music... My favorite musical artist is Tupac
Sports... My favorite team is the Raiders and my favorite player was Rich Gannon.
For whoever buys my shoes... I'd like them to display them as a work of art.

Marlenne, 16, Identity - "Identity War" (Size 9.5M))
My shoe has a lot to do with war and identity. War causes an identity crisis in that not only do you cause casualties, but you become a casualty yourself because you don't know who you are anymore - you get consumed with all the ideas inside of you. Sometimes you come back schizophrenic or mentally handicapped and you can't get used to love anymore. In war, you impact lives in a way in which you can never imagine, and often as a result, you end up growing up with a fear and hatred of other people which in turn breeds prejudice. A big problem is that soldiers come back and they aren't being paid attention to. The media doesn't show the people who are dying, and it doesn't show the people who don't come back as themselves anymore.

Fun facts:
In my free time... I often either play trombone or guitar, or I sing. I also spend time volunteering at "A Place Called Home." I'm going to Africa in June - to Sierra Leone. We're helping build and enlarge schools there.
Music... As a musician it's hard for me to criticize others' music. I'm mostly in to punk, but I also like other music like Elliot Smith.
Sports... I love the Seattle Seahawks and my favorite soccer team is the Italian national team. I also like running track and field and playing football.
For whoever buys my shoes... I want them to realize it's clothing you can express yourself with. Shoes are considered art. They say you can tell a lot about a person by their shoes, and I believe that. For me, it is art. I would like for the person who buys them to wear them and not just treat them as an artifact.

Alejandra, 15, Peace -- "Peace & Love" (Size 10M)
My shoes talk about the peace and love that will overcome other obstacles and allow us all to be happy. I always try to keep my life peaceful and happy - I think that's important. The quote along the shoe says, "When the power of love overcomes the love of power, the world will know peace." Jimi Hendrix said it. Overall, it's about pride, too, and saying you don't get into stuff that'll get you in trouble. I wanted the shoe to be all neon so it stands out more and represents happiness.

Fun facts:
In my free time... I play trombone for the school band. I like to listen to music and be with friends, especially with my sister who is my best friend.
Music... I like kind of alternative music and indie stuff.
Sports... Sports? No, I don't like running or anything! I like Chivas USA, though.
For whoever buys my shoes... I hope they wear them, because that's what the shoe is for!

Jonathan Ruiz, 16, Inner Strength -- "Darkness and Light" (Size 8.5M)
I made my shoes to reflect my personality, my life, my experiences and my favorite colors. You can see how I used opposite colors to draw similar images on the two shoes, which stands for the good and the bad side of my personality. Muerte means death in Spanish, and "death" is a nickname my friends call me because I'm skinny. Finding strength in who you are helps you find the right path in life and push through hard times. The cause I'd like to help, even though it's not directly on my shoes, is animal rights. I do think, though, if people find strength in their personality and self, they can look to help other causes. For me, that's animal rights.

Fun facts:
Birthplace... I'm from Mexico.
In the future... I want to be artist or musician, maybe.

Gerardo, 14 and Juan, 15, Peace & Conflict Balance -- "Yin Yang" (Size 9.5M)
We're working as a group because his is about peace and mine is the opposite. It's hard to find peace in our world. It often seems like there are more bad people than good people. In LA, you see a lot of gangs and graffiti and a lot of violence. Some people just don't care about others, which shouldn't be the case.

Fun facts:
In our free time... I enjoy surfing MySpace (Gerardo). I like playing basketball (Juan)
My favorite music... Rock and Metallica specifically (Gerardo). Hip-hop (Juan)
Sports... My favorite team is USC (Gerardo). USC! (Juan)
For whoever buys our shoes... I hope they do a little of both - wearing them and displaying them - because when you wear them, they show the pride and people see the art; when you display them as art, people see it in a different way.

Marlene, 15 and Karely, 15, Peace -- "More Peace, Less War" (Size 11.5M)
We highlighted the peace sign because we believe that there should be peace and the war should stop. We wanted to symbolize that on the shoes. All the troops are dying and their families, the ones that often end up worse off, get hurt. It seems we always got to fight for something, whether it's oil or something else. We think the country should worry about things that are really needed and not what they believe is needed. Too many troops die to serve our country, but war never stops. This time, they sent troops to Iraq but there has been no difference.

Fun facts:
In our free time... We like to go to parks, play basketball and other things.
Music... Hyphy and techno music
Sports... We are football fans - we cheer for our school team
For whoever buys our shoes... Wear them, because they can show it off - show the message out.

Josephine Flores, 15, Environmental Awareness -- "Being Green" (Size 10M)
Through my shoe, I'm trying to reach out to both the people who love the environment as much as I do and those on the opposite spectrum, those who aren't concerned at all with the planet's well being. This shoe will hopefully educate these people and help them understand the threat we, as a race, are to our world. The color green obviously is a representation of this, and the branches, bereft of leaves or life, represent the dying trees. My background is black because the future of our planet is bleak, especially if we continue on this path of destruction through fossil fuels and carbon emissions. I decided to stripe the Nike sign so that my shoe does not neglect animals and their vulnerability as well, because our carbon footprint will affect them as well. The reason I singled out zebras is that they are a species that tends to "float under the radar," are generally herbivores, and will lose a great deal of their diet to global warming. I believe a way to ameliorate global warming is to find alternate sources of energy, and to stop deforestation, because the techniques employed in cutting down trees release a large amount of carbon dioxide into the atmosphere and reduce the amount of oxygen given off by these trees.

Gregory Santiago, 16, Self Pride - "Expression" (Size 11M)
The main theme of my shoe is to encourage people to be themselves and never be ashamed of the people they are. That's why I wrote "Pride" so obviously on the side of my shoe, because I'm proud of who I am and of the shoe I created. I know that people can wear a smile when on the inside they're hurting, so to relieve this inner strife people shouldn't worry about what others think and let their inner light shine through. The flower symbolizes the different stages in life, most importantly the one in which it blooms. A flower's blooming parallels a person's portrayal of his true colors. Yet just as a flower dies after it blooms, people might lose their opportunities to let their personalities shine, so we need to do so when we bloom, before it's too late. The reason I chose champagne as my main color is that it spoke to me in the sense that it's very classy and very, well, me! There is a drawing of a person trapped inside a bubble, but he's trying to get out and experience what the world has to offer. I'm reaching out to anyone who is insecure about himself and cannot find the strength to express who he is.

Fun facts:
Shoes... I love all heels, but namely stilettos because they are the epitome of class, and there are so many different styles yet are beautiful in their own ways.
Movies... I love movies, mostly musicals (Hairspray), and horror films (Nightmare on Elm Street, Korean and Japanese horror movies).

Rosa Nava, 16, Peace - "The Ultimate Goal" (Size 9.5M)
Growing up in Los Angeles, I have been exposed to a lot of gang violence and civil unrest. Therefore, my shoes convey my main goal for society: ultimate peace. My shoes are painted with lots of bright colors, because I feel like color brings a positive energy and vibe to any situation, and I want people to feel happy when they looks at them. The baby blue background represents the sky, symbolizing that the sky is the limit on society's ability to achieve peace. Also, purple is my best friend's favorite color, so I had to add a little bit of his flair to them. An issue that greatly inhibits ultimate peace and harmony is racism, which is another subject very close to home. Therefore, I had to speak up against that somewhere on my shoe. I definitely think people with a hippy-ish, liberal attitude about life with understand my shoe, but I also want to reach out and inspire those who disagree or turn a blind eye to my message. This shoe has the potential to change minds, so hopefully getting my message out there will help make this world a better place.

Fun facts:
In my free time... I love to scrapbook and shop with Greg (fellow shoe artist). It's basically Greg's outlet for his obsession with heels, because he makes me buy all the pairs he likes!

Deisy, 16, Gang Violence - "Hope for Peace" (9M)
Where I have grown up a lot of people are dying because of gang violence. Innocent people are getting hurt because people are doing things they aren't supposed to be doing. If parents don't care about their children and what they do, they will join gangs. The red on my shoes represent blood, and the bullets are used to represent violence because people are getting shot. The blue represents hope and peace. I hope to make people change their minds about joining gangs and realize that their families are what is important.

Fun facts:
I was born in Mexico.

VARIETY BOYS & GIRLS CLUB
Angel, 13, Immigration -- "The Dividers" (Size 6.5M)
I chose to draw immigration, because that is what is going on right now. If they take all the immigrants out of California, California would be dead; and my family members and friends don't have immigration papers, so they would no longer have jobs. I painted the American flag on one shoe and Mexico flag on another - they are not together on one shoe because there is a border that separates the two. I wrote "Yes we can" because that is what immigrants usually yell in the protests - they want their rights, and the people that are here already, they should get their papers, get jobs and build shelters for the homeless.

Fun facts: In my free time... I come to the Boys & Girls Club

My favorite subject... English
Sports... I play basketball
Food... Chocolate or cookies and cream milk shake

Xochilt, 16, Animal Rights Awareness -- "Purple Panda" (Size 10M)
I chose to illustrate animal extinction because I like animals, especially pandas, but they are in danger of going extinct because of things like deforestation. I think people should stop cutting trees and bamboos and think of the animals they'd be hurting. I want animals on the planet because they were here before all of us humans - we should respect their land. We keep taking things away from them. I drew clouds and rainbows because happy animals equal a happy environment.

Fun facts:
In my free time... I enjoy art, especially free painting, drawing and sculpting
Movies... I am looking forward to Ironman
Favorite color... Purple, which is why I chose to include it on my shoe.

Ernesto, 16, Drug Abuse -- "ERoXZ" (Nickname at school) (Size 10M)
My shoe is about drugs because it is hard to see people live the life they live when they are on drugs. It is hard to see people homeless and see them ask people for money when they are on drugs. I don't like seeing people on the streets - it makes the streets look dirty. On the left shoe, the skulls, bones, weed plant and snake are symbols of how drugs can kill you. I wrote "Death is near!" because the danger in doing drugs is you will get so addicted that you cannot get off it - then your death comes closer. The right shoe is what I imagine to be when you hallucinate when you are on drugs. I picked all the different colors because of how colorful it is, and the images associated with the 1970s and with hippies.

Fun facts:
In my free time... I listen to music - Avril Lavigne is great; she sings about real life.
My favorite subject... Math
Food... Pizza
In the future... I'd like to be a singer and also act

Genaro, 16, Gang Violence - "Seasons of Life" (Size 10M)
I picked gang violence because I've been around it here and when I lived in South Central. My cousin got shot and I know the tolls it takes on people. This issue really needs to be stopped. People need to realize the importance of raising good, wholesome men in the community so they don't go into gang violence. The left shoe is the urban city where the gangs hang out and the gangster, wearing a bandana over his face, is shooting. The black represents the boring life, because as a gang member, you don't really have a life. The gunshot turns into a football on the other shoe, where a person is catching a pass. Football is what helped me get out of gangs. Football has taught me how to love someone who is not just your family and to always be conscious of other people - show respect and discipline. When reviewing football film, you find out about yourself.

Fun facts:
Favorite movie... Gridiron Gang
Favorite subject... History
Football position... Linebacker and defensive end
In the future... I want to study psychology and sports management
Sports... Football - I like the Dallas Cowboys and USC!
Food... Pepperoni pizza
Music... Depeche Mode

Alex, Peace - "Peace" (Size 10M)
I have been at the Boys and Girls club for six years.

My shoe design represents the colors of the world. I wanted to do colors that were bright. The Chinese characters mean peace, and I did an image of the peace symbol to represent the same statement but in a visual sense. This I believe shows that peace can be illustrated in many different ways. Why peace?? Because of what is going on the with the world right now there hardly any talk of peace. It is hard when you come home to the news it is always depressing, it is never anything that I actually want to watch.

Miguel, 17, Graffiti - "Graffiti: So What?" (Size 12M)
My shoes are about graffiti. Some people think it is bad and some people think it is good. I picked it because I have troubles with graffiti and with people complaining about it. The artists often use graffiti as a way to express their feelings. I like graffiti because I feel like I can express art through graffiti. I think we should have more stuff like Kicks for a Cause for people who do use graffiti as an outlet. I don't have the opportunity to participate in my schools art program because I have to pick up my grades. The right shoe shows how people express their feelings. The colors are on the dark side because they feel bad. I chose the joker because it makes fun of the people who think graffiti is bad. On the other shoe shows all the people what graffiti means to the artists. "What?" is what goes in the minds of the people who see graffiti and don't understand what it means.

Fun facts:
Sports... I play basketball on two teams - I'm a forward.
Music... I listen to hip hop. Tupac is my favorite artist
Food... Pizza or cookies and cream
In the future... I'd like to be a massage therapist

Joel, 14, Drugs & Alcohol Abuse -- "Say No to Drugs and Alcohol: My Shoes" (Size 9M)
My issue is drugs and alcohol. I chose it because from the looks of it in the parks, I see a lot of trash, alcohol and cigarette buds on the ground, and pieces of glass in the water. I think people on drugs and alcohol have a lot to do with the mess. The water is too dirty, the ducks are dying; I think that if there are less people polluting the park, then it will be available for people to actually enjoy. Every time I go to the park, no one is there because it is so dirty. My right shoe shows a person drinking and everything is brown. The swings are all messed up and there are some birds dying. On the left shoe there is a man who is happy. There are kids who are playing with their kites. The lake is all clean and there are planes in the sky. Everything is so clean. The sides read "say no to drugs" because one of my family members died from drugs.

Fun facts:
Favorite subject... Math

Music... Hip hop and Soulja Boy
Food... Red Chili Enchiladas

Oscar, 14, Immigration -- "Mexican/American" (Size 10M)
I picked immigration because it is a big issue currently in the United States. Without the Mexicans, the United States would be a lot less of a country. The Mexicans are often the ones working hard to get basic things like fruits and vegetables for us. I don't think they should be limited from coming because many Mexicans are helpful to this country when they come. My right shoe shows the Mexican flag with the American passport. They are together because some Mexicans are trying to be a citizen so they are both Mexican and American. On the left shoe is the American flag and birth certificate because the babies that are born here are lucky enough to have a U.S. birth certificate.

Fun facts:
Favorite subject... Math - algebra in particular
Food... Hawaiian pizza
In my free time... I enjoy watching TV - The Simpsons, Malcolm in the Middle and King of the Hill are my favorite shows

Sammantha, 13, Global Warming - "Take Responsibility 4 Our World" (Size 8M)
I chose global warming because people need to pay more attention to what is happening in the world. If the world ends as a result, people will regret not helping the environment. We still have a chance to change the world - I want to change the world. On my shoes, I drew the world on fire because if we stop taking care of the world, the ozone layer will fade away and the world will get really hot and everything will die. In Antarctica, we won't have ice anymore and creatures like polar bears and penguins will be extinct. To stop global warming, we can stop using hairspray, unplug appliances at night, recycle and throw trash in trash cans.

Fun facts:

Karen, 12, Intercity Plagues -- "Bad Mix" (Size 8M)
I drew trash, guns and knives on my shoes because I think they are all related. In the city, I see guns being used to kill people. The city is also too dirty with trash. Bad guys use their guns too much to take what they want when they can't afford it. It's like, "You dare me this, and I do it." The trashcan and trash in front shows everything we are too lazy to pick up and clean. I wrote "You're a Loser" to represent graffiti tagging. Around the graffiti is a pattern of heart for life and a gun meaning killing that life. On the side I wrote "Be yourself" and "Become a better person" because when my dad has told me to be myself and not feel I have to be like older people who want to take drugs. Say no, if you don't want to do it. If you say yes, then you've made a bad choice. To become a better person means to be also be a better person in the eyes of younger kids.

Diana, 15, Recycling - "Gangollution" (Size 7.5M)
I chose recycling for my cause because dirty streets and litter have greater effects on the well-being of a community and the lives of the people. We live in a community where all we see is dirtiness. I think it is important to recycle and my family recycles. I was taught to recycle, and by doing so, I'm making a positive impact in the world, even though it is not a big one. Little by little I am changing the world. I chose to draw the recycling symbols because it is simple, so when people see the shoe, they will see what I stand for.

Gisselle, 16 - "Little by Little" (Size 9M)
I picked to speak about not littering because we are endangering the animals in the ocean among many other things. I also wanted to make my shoes speak out against gangs because I don't want a family member to get killed for how they are dressed or how they look. You can't dress a certain way or else people will think you are a gang member. You should dress how you want to dress. Environmental damage and gang activity are related because gang members are some of the people who don't care about what happens when they litter. A clean, sunny beach is the opposite of dirty, dark gang activity.

Bryan, 12, Smoking Addiction -- "Think first" (Size 9M)
I made one shoe to look like a cigarette, and the other shoe says "think first." I wrote this because there are so many people smoking in the community - I can see that they don't think before they get addicted. When you smoke, you can mess up your lungs and die faster, and if a woman is pregnant and they smoke, their baby could die. I think people smoke because maybe they think it's fun and they see others doing it. I say to them: Think before you do it or else you will die. If I could, I'd buy all the cigarettes and throw them away. To avoid them, if I'm walking and people are smoking, I'll walk through another street.

Wendy, 15, World Peace -- "Fighting for What Matters" (Size 7M)
I picked to draw about peace in the world. I picked it because I find it that everywhere we go, we find things that don't make sense - everyone's fighting over little small things that we could easily fix. That's why I picked peace. I find it frustrating at times, because in LA there is a lot of violence and racism. If I could change people's actions, I would tell them to look at the things they do, because sometimes they don't stop to notice what they are doing. They might think it's right or it's OK, but if they looked at it from another point of view, they'd see the fault.

Fun facts:
Favorite music... R&B. I also like hip-hop - Beyonce and Mariah
Sports... I cheer for the Falcons. I like playing flag football, playing volleyball and I love swimming. I've been on the swim team.
Favorite food... Lasagna
For whoever buys my shoes...I'd prefer if they were both worn and displayed, but more if they were worn so the word can get around.
